A: The one hundred foot tall STAR was erected atop MILL MOUNTAIN in 1949, to commemorate Roanoke's being honored as an All-American City. It continues to represent our home-town community spirit and has landed Roanoke the title "Star City of the South". Contrary to popular belief, the MILL MOUNTAIN STAR is NOT a left-over Christmas display.
